The Confucius Institute at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University and the Chinese Embassy jointly held the Chinese Corner
Recently, the Confucius Institute at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University and the Embassy of People’s Republic of China in the Republic of North Macedonia jointly held the Chinese Corner themed “Love Chinese, Heart to Heart” in Skopje City Park. This is the first offline Chinese Corner activity of the Confucius Institutes since the epidemic. The Director of the Political Department of the Chinese Embassy in North Macedonia, Zhang Lelei, attended the event, along with more than 30 teachers and students of the Confucius Institute.

The Director, Zhang Lelei extended cordial greetings to the teachers and students of the Confucius Institute, and recognized the work made by the Confucius Institute for cultural exchanges between China and North Macedonia. He also encouraged students to continue to learn Chinese and reach for their dreams. The accompanying embassy staff, Zhao Qian, Li Shipeng and Zhou Yun, then introduced China’s current policies on foreign students’ study and work in China in both Chinese and English. They spoke highly of the students’ enthusiasm for learning Chinese. The introduction further triggered students’ desire for more information about China’s education policies.

After that, students introduced themselves in Chinese, and some of them shared their experiences in learning Chinese and their love for it. They hope to study in China and learn more about Chinese culture, whose fluent and skillful Chinese won warm applause from everyone. Some Chinese beginners’ expressions were not that accurate, but other students kindly reminded them, so that they can introduce at ease. The atmosphere was pleasing and relaxing.

Simona Spirkoska and Sun Ping, a Chinese teacher, organized the students to carry out collective activities such as “Guess Chinese by Actions” and “Bounce Balloons”, and then the staff of the Chinese Embassy rewarded gifts with Chinese characteristics to the game winners. The students did their best to cooperate with each other, and everybody was so happy.

At the end, the embassy staff brought students Chinese and English bilingual books introducing Chinese culture, and the students were so happy to choose their favorite books. We people from different countries are connected by Chinese and look forward to meeting each other in the next Chinese corner.
