On April 2, 2022, the Confucius Institute at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje organized an online workshop themed “HUA MULAN” for the members of the children’s musical studio Broadway JR  of the Association for Informal and Inclusive Education and Development Creo-Aksis from Skopje.

At the workshop, the children had the opportunity to learn and understand more about the origin, history, and meaning of the story of HUA MULAN, which will help them to more authentically develop and capture the characters in the musical with the same name, and for which performance they are currently preparing.

The workshop helped the children get closer to ancient Chinese civilization, learn more about Chinese culture and long traditions, and understand Chinese society’s essential virtues and values.

The children were introduced to the Chinese language through the workshop with exciting Calligraphy instructions. They were able to practice the pronunciation of the characters’ names in the story. Through interesting memory games and flashcards, they learned some new words in Chinese connected to the legend. They could even write the characters “花木兰” and recognize other Chinese Characters.

The workshop contained a Q&A session, where the children asked many questions about the story and the Chinese culture, tradition, and language. Our teacher, Ms. Simona Spirkoska, through her interesting presentation and answers to their inquiries, brought the Children closer to the story of the life and experiences of the brave Ms. Mulan.
