On the 9th of March 2024, a unique event was hosted by Confucius Institute at the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in North Macedonia. The Confucius Institute, known for its promotion of Chinese culture, was invited to the screening event of the highly anticipated animated film, ‘Kung Fu Panda 4’. The event was made even more special with the participation of local teacher Marija Dachevska and volunteer teacher Liu Yi, who showcased their skills in Tai Chi and calligraphy respectively.
‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ is the fourth film in the ‘Kung Fu Panda’ series produced by DreamWorks Animation in the United States. It was officially released in North Macedonia on March 7th. This family day is jointly organized by the PAGODA team and Cineplexx MK Cinema, providing the audience with culturally themed activities related to ‘Kung Fu Panda.’
Marija, a local Tai Chi teacher at the Confucius Institute, demonstrated Tai Chi Fan and Tai Chi Sword on the spot. Her Chinese-style Tai Chi costumes perfected the ‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ promotional posters. Her superb Tai Chi skills won continuous applause from the audience. The audience was eager to experience it one after another. Marija, the teacher, guided them in completing tai chi movements individually and enjoying the charm of Chinese martial arts. Liu Yi, a volunteer teacher from the Confucius Institute, displayed the calligraphy work “Chinese Martial Spirit” on-site and coached the audience to learn the Chinese character “武.” She explained the relationship between martial arts and kung fu and instructed the audience to experience the art of calligraphy.
In addition, the cinema has a ‘Kung Fu Panda’ Hat DIY workshop, Wing Chun, and other colorful activity displays. The young audience can enjoy the movie screening and experience the true essence of oriental art.
This event was not just about the screening of ‘Kung Fu Panda 4’, but also about fostering cultural understanding and cooperation. The participation of the Confucius Institute and the interactive cultural activities helped the audience gain a deeper appreciation of Chinese Tai Chi and calligraphy. This, in turn, contributed to the strengthening of People-to-people Ties and cooperation between China and North Macedonia, making the event a true celebration of cultural exchange.
