On May 13, Liao Wei, Chinese Dean of the Confucius Institute at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, attended the Confucius Institute International Forum (online) hosted by the Confucius Institute at Sebelas Maret University in Indonesia, and made a speech as one of the six keynote speakers. The theme of the forum was “The Role of Confucius Institutes in the Belt and Road Initiative”, and representatives of many Confucius Institutes from 5 countries along the Belt and Road of Philippines, Afghanistan, Malaysia, Indonesia and North Macedonia attended the meeting.

The participants discussed how to improve the development of Confucius Institutes considering the national conditions of different countries, help implement the “Belt and Road Initiative”, and enhance the understanding and exchange between the people of Chinese and the countries where Confucius Institutes are located. In his speech, Liao Wei shared the experience in organizing large-scale international academic conferences on the theme of the “Belt and Road Initiative ” hosted by the Confucius Institute at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, and the Institute’s assistance to Chinese and foreign universities to establish the “Research Center for Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkan Region “, which is an attempt and exploration of the “Belt and Road Initiative ” in scientific research. During the exchange, Liao Wei also discussed how to further tap the potential of Confucius Institutes to help the construction of “Belt and Road Initiative”. Liao Wei’s speech aroused extensive response and resonance of many participants.
