From December 1st to December 20th, 2021, the Confucius Institute at the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje organized a successful online singing competition titled “Learning Chinese by Singing.” The purpose of the competition is to provide a platform for students to showcase their Chinese language skills and musical talent. It is also aimed at enhancing students’ love and understanding of Chinese culture.
With the help of parents and teachers, the contestants recorded videos as their competition submissions. The judging panel evaluated the video submissions, and the organizer announced the final results. First, second, and third prize were awarded and honorable mentions.
The first prize was awarded to Sofia Mirkovska for her beautiful voice and outstanding performance of the Chinese popular song “Cool (凉凉).” Sofia has been a Chinese language and culture enthusiast since a very early age.
The clever and lively Marko Efremov won second prize for “Happy New Year.” His performance was joyful and festive, his pronunciation standard, rhythm precise, and voice gentle.
The versatile Jana Aleksova received the third prize and unanimous praise from the judges and teachers for her excellent stage presence and performance.
This competition has increased the enthusiasm of primary and secondary school students for learning Chinese. It has contributed to their extracurricular activities and has provided opportunities for the students to improve their Chinese language proficiency and learn more about Chinese music.
