On February 6, Confucius Institute’s Chinese Director Liao Wei and Office Director Elena Damjanoska, met with Bitola Mayor Natasha Petrovska in her office to discuss the introduction of Chinese language courses and the expansion of teaching sites.
Liao Wei briefly introduced the Confucius Institute and proposed the introduction of Chinese language teaching in Bitola. Petrovska praised the achievements of the Confucius Institute in North Macedonia, and responded positively to the proposal Confucius Institute to begin activities in Bitola. Petrovska said that she would encourage and support various schools in the city to gradually introduce extracurricular Chinese language courses, which will help young people learn about and understand Chinese language and culture. The two sides also discussed the possibility of the Confucius Institute organizing a cultural exhibition in Bitola.

Bitola is the second largest city in the Republic of North Macedonia and the administrative, economic, educational, and cultural center of southwestern Macedonia. By opening teaching sites in the city, the Confucius Institute hopes to expand its influence, better promote Chinese language and Chinese culture; advance the communication and exchanges between the China and North Macedonia’s peoples and build a bridge of friendship between the two countries.
