On Friday, December 18, 2020, the online Confucius Institute Chinese Corner featured a lecture about Tianjin titled \u201cA Stroll through Tianjin\u201d (\u8d70\u904d\u5929\u6d25) delivered by the sinologist and Confucius Institute teacher Ms. Daniela Eftimova. Over 50 CI students and Chinese culture enthusiasts joined the ZOOM event, attentively listening to the lecture about the 4th<\/sup> biggest city in China. This is the first talk in a series of online lectures about China that will be featured in the coming winter months.<\/p>\n

Ms. Daniela Eftimova took the online audience on a stroll and personal tour of the Heavenly Ford, i.e. Tianjin (ti\u0101nj\u012bn\u5929\u6d25). She spoke about Tianjin\u2019s major sights and landmarks, but also hidden gems known only to the locals. This coastal city famous for European influences, boasts tourist attractions like the Italian Concession (\u5929\u6d25\u610f\u5f0f\u98ce\u60c5\u533ati\u0101nj\u012bn y\u00ec sh\u00ec f\u0113ngq\u00edng q\u016b) and Five Great Avenues (\u4e94\u5927\u9053 W\u01d4 d\u00e0d\u00e0o), modern architectural wonders like the Binhai Library (\u6ee8\u6d77\u56fe\u4e66\u9986b\u012bnh\u01cei t\u00fash\u016b gu\u01cen) and Tianjin Eye (\u5929\u6d25\u4e4b\u773c\u6469\u5929\u8f6e ti\u0101nj\u012bn zh\u012b y\u01cen m\u00f3ti\u0101n l\u00fan), and of course areas that celebrate traditional Chinese culture like the Ancient Culture Street complex (\u53e4\u6587\u5316\u8857\u00a0 \u00a0g\u01d4 w\u00e9nhu\u00e0 jie) and the private museum Porcelain House (\u74f7\u623f\u5b50c\u00edf\u00e1ngzi). The audience learned that the port city in the Bohai Gulf has also produced some of the most delectable Chinese snacks like Goubuli Steamed Stuffed Buns<\/em> (\u72d7\u4e0d\u7406\u5305\u5b50 g\u01d2u b\u00fa l\u01d0 b\u0101o z\u01d0), Fried Dough Twists<\/em> (\u9ebb\u82b1 m\u00e1 hu\u0101) and Jian Bing Guo Zi <\/em><\/strong>(<\/strong>\u714e\u997c\u9983\u5b50<\/strong> ji\u0101n b\u01d0ng gu\u01d2 z\u01d0). <\/strong>Ms. Eftimova generously shared photographs and stories of her student life at Tianjin\u2019s famous Nankai University (\u5357\u5f00\u5927\u5b66n\u00e1nk\u0101i d\u00e0xu\u00e9), transporting the audience in the everyday bustle and hustle of this burgeoning metropolis. \u00a0The talk concluded with a lively Q&A with the audience.<\/p>\n
